A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §5-5-6, relating to salaries of state employees.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §5-5-6, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 5. SALARY INCREASE FOR STATE EMPLOYEES.
§5-5-6. State employees salaries to be above Federal Poverty Guidelines.

(a) Commencing on the first day of July, two thousand eight, a state employee may not have a salary that is less than one hundred twenty-five percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines as set forth in the Federal Register on the twenty-third day of January, two thousand eight.
(b) Every year on the first day of July, all state salaries shall be adjusted to at least one hundred twenty-five percent above the Federal Poverty Guidelines issued in January of the current year, and set forth in the Federal Register.




NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to raise the state salary level to at least one hundred twenty-five percent above the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
